Choosing Your Reception Site - 2 Feb 2008, 4:45 pm

Selecting Your Reception Site
Your wedding ceremony is just the beginning of the festivities. The celebration continues at your reception. Your wedding reception may be the most important - and largest - party you will ever throw. And a great party deserves a great venue.

There are many factors to take into consideration when selecting your reception site, including:
The number of guests.A large guest list requires a large venue, such as a reception hall or hotel ballroom. Some halls can accommodate up to 900 guests and more. If you have a small guest list, you will be able to have your reception in a more intimate setting, such as a museum, botanical garden or historic home.
Ambiance and Atmosphere
Do you want a formal hall with separate areas for drinks, dining and dancing? Perhaps your site would look beautiful by candlelight. Maybe you want something a little more rustic? Do you want to feel fresh air on your face?

Whether you're looking for roomy and airy, or close and cozy, try to view the venues you're considering after the facility's staff sets up for a wedding or while a reception is in progress. That way, you'll be able to judge what the room looks like with decorations and people, and tell whether it's the right atmosphere for you.

Surroundings
Do you see your reception surrounded by green trees? Or perhaps a view of the city's skyline? Maybe you want to be surrounded by colorful blooms or a country field.

When you look at a reception venue, consider not only the interior but also the exterior. Look out the windows and make sure you're happy with what you see.

Facility Services
Some reception sites can provide you with a number of services that may make your planning easier, including an on-site wedding coordinator, catering and wait staff, bakers, and valets. If a site does not provide these services the staff should be able to provide you with a list of recommended providers with whom they've worked before or with whom they have special pricing arrangements.

Many brides say that finding a reception site is much like shopping for your dress - not only can you imagine it clearly when you close your eyes, but you'll know the right one when you see it. And with so many venues available throughout the St. Louis area, you can be sure to find one that fits!

Your Wedding, Dot ComWhy the Hottest Wedding Planning Trend is One You Can't Do Without
by Jason Melendezco-author of "e-Plan Your Wedding: How to Save Time and Money with Today's Best Online Resources"

Sometimes it's smart to jump on the bandwagon. If you're planning a wedding and are looking to make life a little easier, the personal wedding website is one wagon you don't want to miss. From managing your guest list to balancing your budget to e-enabling your gift registries, a wedding website is a fun, convenient way to smooth the planning journey. And for those who think website options are limited to cheesy templates, expensive custom jobs, or time consuming build-it-yourself-from-scratch projects, think again. Today's wedding websites are slick, beautiful, and powerful services. Even if you have zero tech experience, you can get your own wedding website up and live on the web in just minutes-for little or no cost. The sooner you get yours going, the more of a benefit it will be, so put this time-saving e-Resource to work for you ASAP.

What Is It?
A good wedding website is professional, just as customized and beautiful as the rest of your wedding, and packed with convenient features. Your guests will get instant 24/7 access to everything related to the big day: your gift registries, RSVP manager, maps, directions, photo albums, video clips, and event calendar...just to name a few. You'll have a centralized source of information, too. Access resources like your checklists, guest database, address book, budget manager, and payment tracker from anywhere you have Internet access.

What Can You Do with It?
Keep in Touch: Is your guest list or bridal party scattered across the country or even the world? No problem. Forget the costly long distance bills; a wedding website is a globally accessible place to exchange ideas, provide information, share photos, even discuss music options. Got any big announcements, changes in plans, or news on upcoming events? Let everyone know by including the info on your website.
Inform Your Guests (and Vice Versa): As the wedding day draws near, the questions will start rolling in. "How do I get to the church?"..."Can I change my dinner choice from fish to beef?"... "What's the hotel reservation block number again?"...you get the idea. Without a wedding website, expect your phone to be ringing off the hook, along with your sanity. Having a resource to point everyone towards is going to save you more than a few gray hairs as you scramble to take care of last minute details. Plus, it just makes it easy and more convenient for your guests to have an informative spot to pull maps, directions, reservation info, and everything else they'll need. Worried about how to get info about your gift registries out to your guests? Activate your website's online gift registry, link it to your stores, and put your website address on your invitations. Problem solved. An online RSVP update is another example: let guests inform you of changes in meal choice or number attending on your website, without them having to track you down by phone.
Manage and Organize Your Planning: Information organization and management are areas a computer is especially good at, so it only makes sense that you can leverage this processing power to your wedding planning advantage. Most professional website services include planning tools that are integrated with your site. Examples include budget managers, guest databases, payment trackers, and online RSVP features. And because they're integrated, they all work together. When guests send you an e-RSVP, for example, your guest database is automatically updated.
Centralize Your Information: When you build your guest list online-or create it offline and import it-you get a conveniently searchable database of contact information. This is a vital time and sanity saver. It also keeps guests' RSVP information, gift records, birthdays, correspondence history, and more all in one place. With a self-building online address book, your guests can even update their contact information for you as it changes. No need to hunt through notes or make phone calls to get the latest scoop on your guests' addresses. Even after the wedding is long over, having such a dynamic and convenient directory of information for all your friends and relatives is something you can continue to use for sending and tracking thank-you notes, holiday cards or arranging future events and get-togethers. But your guest information isn't the only thing you'll have in one place here. Your website is also an organized source of vendor contacts, events and deadlines, payment schedules, music lists, photo collections...you name it. Consolidating it all to a single location that can be accessed 24/7 from anywhere you have an Internet connection is a convenient, headache-saving asset you'll come to love and appreciate. And when you need to have your info to go, just generate a report, worksheet, or other printer-friendly take-along.
Involve the Groom: While the groom-to-be may have little (if any) interest in selecting bridesmaids' dress colors or choosing the right floral centerpieces, building a wedding website is a fun way to work together in the planning process. He can add his own version of how the two of you met and enter bios for the groomsmen and his family. We know of couples that, for various reasons, were geographically separated throughout much of the planning period. Their wedding website was the primary way for both to keep abreast of the details the other was managing.
Preserve the Memories: Your wedding website is an incredible keepsake. With all its photos, guestbook entries, message boards, notes, informative pages, and lists, it's a detailed scrapbook that captures all facets of your wedding planning journey. Many couples choose to keep their website active and "evolve" it into a family, baby, or travel website after their wedding. Others opt to save it away on a CD. Whatever you choose, your wedding website can live on as a great memento long after the big day.

How To Get Yours
Afraid that a wedding website will be too time-consuming to set up? That it will cost too much, or be too "technical"? If so, you'll be pleasantly surprised to find how easy and inexpensive your own big day's dot-com can be. You're doing this whole website thing to make life easier after all, not to add another item to your to-do list. With the latest do-it-yourself wedding website services, anybody can have a customized website live and on the Internet in minutes. You can add to it at your own pace. And because most services provide generous free trial periods, it won't cost a penny to try. Scope for a good service online at an impartial service directory like www.weddingwebsites.com, check a search engine like Google, or ask a fellow bride (or groom!) for a referral; chances are, they've got a website, too.

Bridal Show - 24 Jan 2008, 5:53 pm
Thank you all so much fro visiting us at the I-X Center Bridal Show this last Sunday, We had an amazing time and really enjoyed speaking with everybody. Please let us know if we can be of any assistance to you.

Ninth Street Events Staff
Couples today spend so much time putting togethe a unique event that really reflects who they are. We at Ninth Street Events have seen too many couples that ignore this idea when it comes to the guestbook. I promise you that if you set one of those pre made books down on your gift table, you will get 200 signatures, half of which will be illegible and that is about it. Spark peoples creativity with a few of these ideas.

1. Customized guest books featuring elegant engraving, wedding colors or motif, and even photos can bring a personal touch to your wedding

2. Having your wedding date on the cover looks classically chic. $90 from www.horchow.com

3. Photographs of the two of you will give guests plenty of inspiration when writing your congratulations! These can be done at home with your favorite photos and a simple guest book. For those of you with bigger budgets try Jill Parkin Designs 714-906-4729. These can run about $300

4. Print business cards in your wedding colors and display them in an album. Guests can remove them and add their own personal message.

5. Set out a poloroid camera and pens and have your guests take snapshots of themselves. Put them in an album or put up on a collage.

These are just ideas, be creative! This is an area where you can afford to be a little less formal and have some fun. I promise you that these ideas will inspire people to write messages and have fun. It will be a lot of fun to look back on later.
Here at NSE we have attended numerous wedding receptions and there is no more dreaded time than the toasts. Many "toasters" are terrified at the prospect of speaking in public, especially at such a cherished event. And the couple is usually nervous for the "toasters" which means everyone winds up holding their breath and waiting for the toasts to pass. It's very awkward. Well NSE wants to offer a few helpful tips on writing a meaningful and fun toast to the couple, which should put even the biggest nerves at ease.

When you have some free time, and are not distracted, sit down and jot down any ideas, themes or memories that you want to include in your toast. Now look at your list. Eliminate anything that is offensive or embarrassing. (Remember if you wouldn't want to tell the story to your grandma, make sure to omit it from your toast.) Now eliminate any story or theme that is unclear to an audience or take to long to explain. The key to a good toast is brevity. (Honestly, guests, for the most part, don't care about your toast so keep it brief or you'll lose your audience)

Now it's time to write your toast.

THE INTRO

Be sure to first identify yourself and how you know the couple because not everyone will know who you are. Next get every ones attention with a joke or charming anecdote. Also don't forget to thank the host for throwing such a beautiful event. If you don't know who is hosting, just thank the couple for being invited to such a beautiful event.

MIDWAY THROUGH

Add the rest of your notes here. Keep the attention on the couple, not yourself and make sure you include the bride and the groom equally. Make sure that you sound well spoken but not snobby and keep things relaxed and fun.

CLOSING

Close with a blessing or good wishes for the couple. Be sincere and genuine. And remember to invite everyone to raise their glasses!

Congatulations! - 15 Oct 2007, 10:51 am
Congrats! to Christine and Tom on their October 11th Wedding at the Pennfield House in Willoughby Hills.
This couple really had a cool idea to say their vows in the Frank Lloyd Wright House in Willoughby against a wall of glass with 50 of their closest friends on a Thursday night (yes i said thursday night)
Instead of having a huge event, this couple decided to keep it personal with their closest family an friends and to just enjoy the company of the people they knew best.
It was an honor to work with them and really remember what this job is all about. Both had a very laid back and relaxed approach while still paying attention to every detail.
We wish you the best of luck in your future and look forward to seeing you again.

David and Rachel
Dear Ninth Street Events - 3 Sep 2007, 10:44 am
I want to keep my bouquet, Do I have to toss it during the reception?

You dont have to toss the actual bouquet that you use. Many brides have their florist create a smaller tossing bouquet that can be thrown to a lucky female guest
Congatulations! - 2 Sep 2007, 6:42 pm
Another one has come and gone and we at Ninth Street Events would like to Congratulate the new Mr. and Mrs. Sean Jackson on their wedding September 1st. It was really a great experience for us to help make this day everything you had imagined and worked so hard to put together. Good Luck to both of you in your future together.

We would also like to thank Marlin at Mt Zion for being flexible and extremely knowledgeable during our rehearsal and ceremony. We could not have done this without you.

Please look for pictures of this and all of our weddings on our website at www.ninthstreetevents.com in the coming weeks.
Celebrity Wedding News - 2 Sep 2007, 6:29 pm
Although pronounced husband and wife in an intimate Atlanta civil ceremony on August 3, 2007, newlyweds Usher and Tameka Foster wanted to share the happiness of their new marital status with those they love, and on September 1, 2007 approximately 200 guests gathered at the Chateau Elan Winery and Resort in Braselton, Georgia to witness the couple one again pledge their love to one another. According to People magazine online, event organizer to the stars Diann Valentine, who has designed dream weddings for a roster of celebrities, including hip hop artists Kelis and Nas and actress Lela Rochon and director Antoine Fuqua, decorated the regal retreat's ballroom for a reception which was enjoyed by such notables as Oprah Winfrey's friend Gayle King and music manager Benny Medina, who sampled slices of a five-tier wedding cake draped in white chocolate from Perfect Endings, a California company which created a five-tier confection for Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey's wedding day, a two-tier and a white chocolate butter treat for Britney Spears and Kevin Federline's walk down the aisle.
Celebrity Weddings - 2 Sep 2007, 6:28 pm
On September 1, 2007, a steady stream of celebrities strolled into the Ojai Presbyterian Church to witness "Private Practice" star Kate Walsh receive a wedding band from 20th Century Fox production executive Alex Young to accompany her Neil Lane Jubilee cut diamond engagement ring, People magazine reports. Actress Kate Beckinsale and her husband Len Wiseman, along with the bride's fellow "Grey's Anatomy" cast mates Sara Ramirez, Chandra Wilson and Katherine Heigl, who is currently making preparations for her own walk down the aisle with musician Josh Kelley on December 23, 2007, were among the 100 guests who rose from the chapel's pews as the Titian-haired television star made her grand entrance in a Monique Lhuillier creation.Following the ceremony, which included music by Rascal Flatts ("Bless The Broken Road") and, according to Entertainment Tonight, a performance by songstress Anya Marina, (who may be familiar to Katherine Heigl fans as having appeared onscreen in the 2000 indie film "100 Girls)," guests gathered at the Ojai Valley Inn and Spa resort, the picturesque California retreat where Kate Walsh's "Private Practice" co-star KaDee Strickland said "I do" to actor Jason Behr ("Roswell") in November 2006. As candlelight illuminated the inn's Spanish Colonial-style Casa Elar, the newlyweds enjoyed a late-night reception among family and friends.
Congatulations!! - 20 Aug 2007, 2:37 pm
Ninth Street Events would like to officially conratulate Jody, Kevin and Logan on creating a new family together and helping us to pull off another great event. We wish you the best of luck and truly loved working with you over the last few months. Best Wishes.

Some vendors who really stood out for us on this event were:

Tom Forrest Photography - professional, friendly and went above and beyond to make sure the couple got every shot they wanted.

Tony Camerato Band - A great 10 piece band, extremely friendly and kept the party moving all night long

Hilton Akron Fairlawn - We havent done too many hotel events and were a little nervous going into it but Molly was extremely helpful and knowledgeable. This venue really put on a flawless event.

Cleveland Botanical Gardens - Paula was very flexible in not only our timing but location also. Anybody looking for a beautiful garden setting, you have plenty of options here.

If anybody is in the Cleveland/Akron area and would like info on any of these vendors, please contact us at info@ninthstreetevents.com
Dear Ninth Street Events - 13 Aug 2007, 1:56 pm
How do I tell my bridesmaids that they have to pay for their own dress? Two of them have never been in a wedding before.

The fact that they havent been in a wedding should make this easy because they dont know any different. Just explain that when somebody stands up in a wedding, they are responsible to pay for what they wear. There are ways that you can help with this without paying out of your own pocket. First, pick a reasonably priced dress, Second, Pick a color and let them pick out their own dress, this will allow them to not only find something within their budget, but also something that fits their bodies.
